Barcode your Opening Inventory

Interested in printing barcodes with WINK Software? This is what you need to know!

Step 1: For you to barcode your Opening Inventory, There are three possible scenarios that we have to take into consideration:

  1. We migrated your frame information into your WINK Database and we also migrated your inventory count for all of your frames.
  2. We migrated your frame information into your WINK Database but we did not migrate your inventory count.
  3. We did not migrate any frame information into WINK.

Scenario #1: We migrated your frame information and inventory count into your WINK Database.

You had covered the cost to have one of our WINK technicians import your list of frames into your private database but decided to not purchase a barcode printer from WINK at the same time. So we also imported the inventory count for all of your frames. You then decide to purchase a barcode printer from WINK.

The following article will explain how to find all of your unprinted barcodes in WINK.

Scenario #2: We only migrated your frame information into your WINK Database

You had either covered the cost to have one of our WINK technicians import your list of frames into your private database or subscribed to our WINKframes service. At the same time, you decided to purchase a barcode printer from WINK.

The following steps will walk you through on how to add your frame inventory into WINK:

  1. File >> Barcode Opening Inventory ...
  2. You can add frames to your inventory by
    1. Typing the model number in the field.
    2. Scan the UPC code on the frame's label.
Note: If the frame is in Frames Data, then all the data associated with that frame will be instantly imported into your Wink database.
  3. Verify that the Retail Min. Price, Default Price and Taxes are correct and save the changes.
    1. If you're applying a markup on your frames then you can skip this section. You'll see that the "Final Price on Label" will take into consideration any markups that you've applied.
Note: If you specify a Default Price then it will be used instead of your markups.
    2. If your pricing is per region, click on the link beside Default Region.
  4. If you wish to print a barcode after the frame is added to your inventory then please leave the box beside "Auto Print Barcode" with a checkmark inside it. Alternatively, you can leave this box unchecked and then find and print all of your unprinted barcodes.
  5. Click on the button to add to your store's inventory.

Scenario #3: We did not migrate any frame information into your WINK Database (Add New Frame as part of your Opening Balance)

You decided to not have one of our WINK technicians import your list of frames into your private database but to enter all of your frame information yourself.

The following article will explain how to create a frame as part of your Opening Balance.

When you're finished entering/labelling ALL frames that make up your Opening Balance (frames purchased before the installation of WINK), you must CLOSE your Opening Balance

  2. Click "Edit" >> Check “Inventory opening balance closed”
  3. Click "Save"

Step 3: Conduct an Inventory Audit of all your frames

The time needed to print all of your barcodes can take hours, sometimes days, and quite possibly weeks to complete. In that time; you received frames from your supplier, you could have returned frames to your supplier, and frames were sold to patients. This next step focuses on the total inventory count of all of your frames.

It is recommended that you read the following article on how to perform an Inventory Audit.
